Primary construction aggregates are products that have been quarried, graded and sized. These materials are very high quality and are supplied in a washed clean state. Below are descriptions and images of the most used primary aggregates in the UK.

10mm Shingle : Aggregates

Also known as Pea Shingle/Gravel:
Used for Pipe bedding, driveways, drainage, paths. Made form quarried stone, and is angular in appearance.

Type 1 Limestone:

Also known as Type 1 Road Stone, MOT Type1. A quarried limestone material sometimes pink in colour. known for it’s great compaction. Size is 40mm down to dust. Building Materials

14mm Single Size Gravel:

Standard size drainage materials, sometimes used on driveways and on pathways

Plum Slate:Used on driveways and paths, but also used as mulch for landscaping, biggest suppliers are from Wales. Plum slate is a quarried material and can be classed as a decorative aggregate. General size is around 40mm.Pink in colour.

20mm Ballast: Aggregates

Size 20mm down to dust.
Quarried material.
Course material mainly used in concrete.

Quarried Material
Usually a flintstone or limestone
Now the material of choice for soakaways

Building Sand:

Fine course, dust grade material

Sharp Sand:Aggregates

Course dust grade material
Used for blinding and sreeding
