A trade tem for the removal of spoil from site is “muckaway”, this can be grab muck or straight tipper. Tipper lorries can be 4,6 or 8 axle. The 8 axle tippers can hold approximately 15 cubic metres of spoil.
An 8 axle grab will hold around 13 cubic metres, this is because the body on a grab is slightly smaller to accommodate the grab arm positioned at the rear of the cab.Capable of delivering building materials
A majority of these loads will be taken to a landfill, but some loads may contain a high volume of concrete or another type of recyclable material, in this case the load will be taken back to a transfer station where any reusable material can be separated.
The picture below is of a six wheel grab lorry, you can clearly see that it needs a smaller body to allow for the grab. Grab lorries are ideal in situations where
skips cannot be used or the material
is in position where it need not be
machine loaded. More and more
domestic clearances now use grabs
as a prefered same day waste disposal
service.
